ABOUT SRI SHESHADRI SWAMIGAL, from memories

A poor man called Arumuga Padayachi was neglected by all his relatives because he became a victim of “Mega” disease and being without any support, he came to Tiruvannamalai in search of Swamiji. After a search for many days he found Swamiji and held on to his feet and wept about his condition. He would not leave the hold on his feet. Swamiji got very angry, took a stone lying nearby and hit him on his head. Padayachi started bleeding, fell down unconscious and relaxed his hold on Swamiji’s feet. Within a month he was cured of his disease and led a happy life with wife and children.

A trader from Saurashtra staying in Madurai did not have any child. After a long period of prayers Devi Meenakshi appeared in his dream and asked him to go to “our Seshadri in Tiruvannamalai”. When they met Swamiji they were surprised when he asked them whether Devi Meenakshi had sent them. He blessed them, tied their saree and doti in a knot and after some time opened it. Within a year they had a male child and they named it Seshadri.

God is my very own

Anandamayi Ma: In whichever direction you may turn your gaze, you will find One Eternal Indivisible Being manifested. Yet it is not at all easy to detect this presence, because He interpenetrates everything. As a king is known by his majesty, as fire is known by its heat, so the Unmanifest reveals Himself through the world of manifestation. The analysis of the substance of all created things, if carried sufficiently far, will lead to the discovery that what remains is identical and equally present in all creatures: it is He, it is That, which is styled as Pure Consciousness.

The Universal Body of the Lord comprises all things – trees, flowers, leaves, hills, mountains, rivers, oceans, and so forth. A time will come, must come, when one actually perceives this all-pervading Universal Form of the One. The variety of His shapes and guises is infinite, uncountable, without end. Just as ice is nothing but water, so the Beloved is without form, without quality, and the question of manifestation does not arise. When this is realized, one has realized one’s Self. For, to find the Beloved is to find my Self, to discover that God is my very own, wholly identical with myself, my innermost Self, the Self of my Self.

Question: Is there any reason that this whole theatre starts? We could have stayed what we are?

Karl Renz: No. You could not. As I said – you are that what is freedom. And freedom means freedom of choice. And freedom of choice means – you cannot make a choice to stay where you are. Even the choice to stay where you are, already the chooser wakes up. So by whatever choice, the chooser is there. Unavoidable. You cannot avoid to wake up. As you cannot avoid to realize yourself. As the realization is here and now. And the wanting to make it un, undoing it, getting out of it – it is called me. It’s a seeker who wants to avoid himself. Who is looking for a way out. Always looking for an exit.

And I am sitting here as a doorman and say – no way out. No way out for you. Because as you are That what is, you cannot leave what you are. As this is, this moment as absolute as it is – one absolute realization, out of infinite aspects of what you are. And you cannot leave That what is, your realization. As you are That what is the realization.

And to be That what is, what is the realization – as the I of the I, the I-am of the I-am, and the I-am-the-world of the I-am-the-world, always the essence as That what is heart. Simply realizing itself as I-am-the-world. But it’s still That what is heart. And there is no second heart. As there is no second edition of existence. You are that existence itself. And you cannot leave it.

They are nothing but gold

Ranjit Maharaj: One should find out what is Reality. The whole world may go to zero but still Reality remains.

Same way the Reality is there. Find out that Reality. And that is oneself without self. Understand this way and you can understand “Who am I?”. Don’t misrepresent you. Everybody misrepresents himself. All ornaments are nothing but gold, or not? If you understand gold, then ornaments do not remain. They are nothing but gold.

Wherever you land you have to depart again

Karl Renz: And no one can claim that he is That. And no one can pull you out again, anything. Because you cannot lose it. Cannot gain it. But everything else you can lose again. And it’s fragile. So all the realizations, all enlightenment, all awakening, and all experiences are very fragile. Wherever you land, you have to depart again. It will be checked. And God will cut you down by all your experiences, by all your insight, by all your intellectual acrobatic ideas of whatever you can nicely pronounce with all the beauty and all of that. Bum. It will puhhh as nothing.

Question: This point of satisfaction.

Karl Renz: It’s not the point of satisfaction.

Question: Or that state.

Karl Renz: That’s not a state. It is not a state. It is fact. There is no one who can be in That what has no state. Everyone needs a state to be in it. But That which is not a state you cannot be in it. There is no one who can be there. Every other state you can land in. But in That no one can land. And then no one can land there, no one can depart. There is no departure possible from what you are.

The absolute in whatever

Karl Renz: Giving attention to attention is being That what doesn’t have any idea about attention.

Question: Yeah, yeah. It sounds first like a paradox.

Karl Renz: It is a paradox.

Question: Because that what is attention can’t…

Karl Renz: If only when you have attention and give attention, then it’s a relative attention. But if you are the absolute attention which cannot… There is no one who has anything. Then you don’t give attention to anything. Then you are attention. Because then you are that what is attention and that what is experience. There is no difference in nature. Then you are that what is. And that what is cannot be disturbed by what is.

So, only when you are separate person and the separate bla-bla-bla entity, and then you are permanent disturbed just by existence. That you exist, you are disturbed. That you are aware to exist. Already the root of all disturbances. That all starts. The awareness I. But that what is awareness has no idea about awareness. That what is the father doesn’t know any father. That what is spirit doesn’t know any spirit. It would never give it the same name. And the absolute person doesn’t know any person.

Anarchy of Existence

Question: You use the word harmony. So harmony is also something that… the word you use. Is it reality for you – harmony?

Karl Renz: Harmony is always there. I am never in any conflict with anything.

Question: For me, sometimes I am afraid because I also see very much the chaos.

Karl Renz: Yeah, but for me chaos is harmony. No, chaos is harmony. Because there is no idea of harmony. That’s chaos. And that is the nature of harmony. Harmony who has no idea of harmony. And that’s chaos. Confusion. That’s harmony. No need of structure or anything. Or pleasing music, or something. No entertaining music.

If you ask me, for me what is art, what is music. Actually, maybe the opposite of the normal understanding of it.

Question: Yeah, exactly.

Karl Renz: But maybe not. I don’t care about what is normal. So, for me it’s… There was never any artist. There was never any creator. This whole creation is totally random. There is no creator deciding anything. It’s just freedom, anarchy of Existence. And no purpose, no meaning. All of that is the free unfolding of Life itself. Life living in a total chaos and confusion of itself. And enjoying itself. And no need of any order or any technique, or anything. How can you learn to live? What a joke.

Sweetness

Karl Renz: I think by intuition you know that you are not something what you can know. By absolute intuition. Because whatever you can know, you drop again. And then you try something else and you drop it again. You pick it up – your understanding or some experience but after a while it doesn’t satisfy you, gone. Next one. So, you always try the next one. And none of them is… Maybe it’s like little temporary satisfaction. But this temporary satisfaction doesn’t satisfy you.

So, all of that is empty. After a while you may turn away from all that, fleeting thing. And then turning away from it, turning to that what is always available. But you never count it. What was always there. So your attention always went astray.

But you cannot… It happens when it happens. Not because you want it to happen. So it has to burn out before. It has to be really empty, empty, empty, empty, empty. Until… Then the longing is so strong that it automatically comes back. And then this experience of that what doesn’t need to experience itself – this sweetness of what it is, that what is sweetness – is uncomparable to any other experience. And then you are totally hooked to yourself. And then by nature you just stay there. Because you are not tempted anymore by all of that fleeting things. But only that can keep you there.

There is only noumenal Life

Karl Renz: There is only Self. If there is at all. And the Self doesn’t know any self. So what is there to… And that is silence. There is no…

Question: Yeah, so ok. If it’s silence, anything that be or arises, arises on this silence.

Karl Renz: It is silence. Not on the silence.

Question: All the phenomenals.

Karl Renz: All is noumenal Life. There is no phenomenal life.

Question: Noumenal Life.

Karl Renz: It’s all noumenal Life. The noumenal is the only what is Reality. There is only noumenal Life.

Sorry, I am not… The phenomenal is just… The nature of the phenomenal is not different from the noumenal. So even the phenomenal is noumenal. There is only noumenal Life. Life as what is Life which is noumenal. Final.

So there is no difference in nature of the phenomenal and the noumenal. So there is no second. So the father, the spirit and the son in nature are Heart. So there is only Heart, the noumenal. Realizing itself as phenomenal. But it doesn’t become phenomenal, realizing itself as phenomenal. It’s uninterrupted noumenal.

So what is there to do. Higher teaching… What is a higher teaching in it? You cannot not be quiet. So, anything else from high-high? High and low.
